There are two covered markets, selling fresh food and handicrafts, in Ancud: the Mercado Municipal, at the junction of Arturo Prat and Libertad; and the Feria Municipal, at Arturo Prat and Pedro Montt. The Feria Municipal (Fair Municipal), temporarily housed in a green marquee, burnt down in February 2009. Dried seaweed, fresh fish and shellfish feature prominently in Chilote cuisine.
