Female angler trying to catch big chinook salmon in Tyee Pool at mouth of Campbell River with guide rowing traditional rowboat
To become a member of the Tyee Club of Campbell River BC, an angler must catch a chinook salmon weighing 30 pounds or more from a rowed boat - no motor-assisted fishing allowed. The angler must use a fishing rod between six and nine feet long with a reel containing line with a breaking strength of no more than 20-pound test. The lure must be artificial and must primarily be fished using trolling techniques. The fish must be weighed at the clubhouse by the official weighmaster using the official scale and have the breaking strength of the line tested. If a fish over thirty pounds is entered, a bell on Tyee Spit beach is rung, one peal for every 10 pounds the chinook weighs. The weights of the latest fish caught and the largest chinook of the season are posted so all the anglers fishing in the Tyee Pool at the mouth of the Campbell River can see.
