Wearable computing. Woman wearing a prototype respiration-measuring sports bra, a type of affective computer. The bra contains a sensor containing two magnets which are attached together. Each breath pulls the magnets apart, creating a current whose strength is dependent on the depth of breath. This information is radioed to a nearby computer, which can monitor the amount of exercise and assess the level of fitness. Normally this device would be hidden in the bra's elastic. Affective computers provide feedback about a person's physical state or behaviour. This sports bra was created at the Media Lab of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA.
