The operation is commenced by filling the hearth with peat and ignit-ing it by placing a burning piece before the blast. After the fire has increased somewhat a few shovelfuls of coke arethrown on it, and upon this a mixture of oxysulphides, undecomposedore, coke rubbish, and coke is charged.
