Business continues to pick up, but there is a falling off in the quantity of cut flowers, especially roses. The crops seem well timed this year and from the houses I saw last week it looks as if there would be a full cut again for Easter. I saw many thou- sands of lilies that were about a foot high. There need be no fear of such stock not being on time. Carnations continue to arrive in immense quanti- ties, and are the only flower of which there is a real surplus. Prices are a little firmer than they were one week ago. There are few carnations selling below $1 and the best fetch $ per dozen, retail. There never was a time in the his- tory of our city when there were so many good residences in the process of construction or under contract to be constructed in the early spring. Those who grow hardy ornamentals, or who do landscape work, say the outlook for business never was so good. The acre- age of this sort of stock will be greatly increased this spring. Various Notes. Born, to T. 11. Joy, Jr., January 15, a son, T. H. Joy IV. When I called at the store of Geny Bros. I found all hands up to their eyes in work, making up funeral designs. They say business was good last week. They kept well cleaned up all the week. Their carnations continue fine and they have a good supply of violets that are selling readily. Hillcrest School Farm is transplant- ing evergreens and planting peonies this week, between rains. The heavy rains prevented their getting all
