First G-APD Cherenkov Telescope (FACT), at the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory on La Palma in the Canary Islands. This telescope is designed to detect Cherenkov radiation, blue light emitted by charged particles when high-energy gamma rays from space strike the atmosphere. It has been in operation since 2011, monitoring bright active galactic nuclei (AGN) in the TeV energy range. Photographed in 2019.
