Čigoć village in Lonjsko polje, Croatia
A particular value of Lonjsko Polje consists of the settlements along the Sava River. Historically speaking, the villages of Lonjsko Polje are traditional units that tell of the way of life and the manner of building dwellings in Posavina during the 19th century. They are at the same time a real reserve of excellently preserved residential architecture made of wood. In most of the villages the typical wooden houses of Posavina still prevail. Some of them are more than 200 years old. Because of the ambient preservation of the old houses, in 1995 the village of Krapje was proclaimed “village of the architectural heritage”.
