The iconic Steetley chimney is blown up in Hartlepool on Sunday 29th July 2012


An iconic Hartlepool landmark disappeared from the skyline on Sunday 29th July 2012, as part of works to clear the former chemical works site The 230ft chimney could be seen for miles around was successfully brought down at 11am, the site will now be cleared to make way for new housing, local man Dave Fricker is scheduled to press the button after winning a raffle to raise funds for Hartlepool RNLI and Hartlepool & District Hospice. Greg Hildreth, events and community facilitator of the hospice, said "We were delighted to have been chosen as one of the charities. The Sirius Group, were contracted to clear the site by the land owners Starford Holdings, Phil Collings, Remediation Director for the Sirius Group, said “It has been a real pleasure to have been part of this”.
