Theprovincial government voted the sum of $250 gold out of the provincial fund tofight the plague, saving, fortunately, the crop of the last-named pueblo (Bais), whichis estimated at 110,000 i)iculs of sugar (137.] lbs. =1 picul). The flourishing condition of the fields of maize, palay (rice), hemp, and sugar,augurs well tor the future j^rosperity of our pueblos. * * * The disposition ofthe pueblos toward the new regime under American sovereignty is, on the whole,favorable.
