Entrance to Asilomar State Park and Conference Grounds near Pacific Grove, California

Asilomar State Park and Conference Center began as a YWCA Leadership Camp in 1913. Its name can be translated from the Spanish as "refuge by the sea". It is located on the Monterey Peninsula near Pacific Grove, California. Many of the buildings on the grounds are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Walkways from the Conference Center lead over the dunes for easy access to the sea. The area is a refuge for wildlife and a home for many species of plants including some that are threatened and are being protected so they can increase naturally.
