All we needto observe here, how-ever, is the fact that theArgonne barrier is rein-forced against an at-tack coming from theeast by this paralleltrench near its west-ern base, even if theAisne trench has con-siderably less defen-sive value than thedeeper moats of theMeuse and Moselle.
