Red-legged pan frog (Kassina maculata). This frog, native to the Indian Ocean coastal regions of Africa, gains its alternative name, red-legged running frog, due to its unusual gait. Unlike most frogs, whose legs are adapted for jumping or swimming, this frog's hindlimbs alternate and it 'walks'. It is a nocturnal species, part arboreal and part ground-dwelling, eating small insects.
