he T212 was Lola's design for 2-litre Group 6 racing in 1971, it comprised an aluminium monocoque with a steel subframe at the rear for the engine and gearbox. Based heavily on the previous year's T210 design the T212 was an immediate success winning the European Trophy For Makes Up To Two Litres ahead of Chevron with victories at Paul Ricard, Hockenheim, Imola, Nürburgring and Jarama. Notable drivers in 1971 included Ronnie Peterson, Jo Bonnier, Vic Elford, Guy Edwards, Helmut Marko, Gijs van Lennep and Jean-Pierre Jabouille. The Lola T210 was an open sport car with an aluminium monocoque frame, lighter and more rigid than a conventional tube frame but more difficult to build and repair. The front and rear suspensions were a conventional type and a tube frame was mounted rearwards with the function of supporting engine, gearbox and suspension. For the engine, the 4-cylinder Ford Cosworth FVC was chosen, coupled to a 5-speed Hewland gearbox. The engine was capable of 245 hp. With the fiberglass body the car weight was 550 Kg. The Lola T210 allowed Jo Bonnier, Lola's official driver, to win the 1970 European Championships, while the European Chapionship for Makes went, for only one point to Chevron. The following year the T210 were upgraded to T212 and were the most successful cars in the 1971 European Championship, winning five of the nine races and awarding the title to Helmut Marko. Lola produced 16 T210-type cars and another 22 cars of the T212 evolved version, decreeing its commercial as well as sporting success.
