An estimated 125,000 people took part in marches across France on Saturday, with around 10,000 people demonstrating in the capital where the scenes were the most violent with some demonstrators burning cars, smashing windows and looting shops. Although most of the yellow vests protests have been peaceful, there have been episodes of violence, with ministers arguing that the "yellow vest" movement has been infiltrated by extreme and violent protesters. 8,000 officers were deployed in the French capital as well as 12 armoured vehicles
