But no sooner was he onhis feet again than he resumed the fa-tiguing duties of the itineracy. Hisfaithful companion in these days ofweakness was John Wesley Bond, ayoung Maryland preacher, who wasdeeply attached to the bishop. In theyear 1814 he had to lament the loss ofhis old and dear friend Otterbein, whosefuneral sermon he preached at years, he said, have I knownthe retiring modesty of this man of God,towering majestic above his fellows inlearning, wisdom, and grace, and yetseeking to be known only of God andthe people of God.
