The machinery of thisstation is bedded on brick. The stack is 150 feet highand the fuel used is oil. The distinguishing feature of the Van Buren streetplant is the rope drive, which is one of the longest in thecountry, being 75 feet from center to center. Theengines are from the Allis works, measuring 30 by 60inches and two in number. They are of 1,300-horse-power each and have 20-foot fly wheels of 100,000pounds avoirdupois.
