/ Wall painting from St. Stephen's Chapel. St. Stephen's was the royal chapel at the Palace of Westminster, London, King Edward I wanted St. Stephen's to compete with the Sainte Chapelle in Paris, the chapel of the French monarchy built 50 years earlier. The chapel was not completed until the reign of his grandson Edward III in 1363. The chapel was decorated with wall painting, some showing scenes from the Old Testament. This fragment shows scenes from the book of Job, in the first scene job's sons and daughters are killed when the house of their eldest brother is blown down by a mighty wind. Satan, sent to test job's faith in God, is shown in the central arch. In the next scene, Job receives news of this calamity. 21/01/2014 - / XIVth century Collection / Active Museum
