The RMS Carpathia, captained by Rostron (left), rescued hundreds of survivors from the RMS Titanic after the ship sank in 1912 in the middle of the North Atlantic Ocean. James Bryce (2nd right) presented Rostron with the Congressional Gold Medal in the British Embassy in Washington. Next to Rostron is his wife, Ethel Minnie Stothert.
