Charles and a young man the father worked uponthe farm during the summer months and intlic winter seasons attended school. Heafterward engaged in^teaching school andlater was em])loyed upon the construction ofthe Jefferson House as a stone cutter. Thesteps leading up to the building are a part ofthis work. Later he was employed by thefirm of Arauld & Shannon, having charge oftheir interests at Millport and tlic .supervisionof their mills and store. Later he was incharge of their store at Geneva, New York,remaining with them for two years. On of that period he entered into busi-ness relations with L. G.
