XXXIV, 1900, S. 352; Jahrb. Hamburg. Anst. XX, 1902, S. 4; Wirtswechs. Rostpilze, 1904, S. 413. Spermagonia amphigenous, subepidermal, with slightly flexed hymenium, about 100/i wide, 50)li high. Aecia on young leaves, usually hypophyllous, also on young branches, up to 1 mm, mostly in groups; on branches up to 1 cm long, on leaves 3—6 mm, more or less confluent, bright orange-colored. Aeciospores globoid or ovoid, slightly angular, 18—23X14 — 19^, catenate, with small intermediate cells; wall 2 fi thick, with a ridged structure above; ridges very short, up to thick, at approximately l/u intervals. Uredia hypophyllous, scattered, small, circular, mm, bright orange- colored, producing yellowish spots on the corresponding upper side of the leaf. Urediospores ovoid, prismatic -ovoid or digitate, 19—32X 11 —15^ wall up to 2/x thick, distantly verrucose (at 2 ju intervals), smooth at the upper end. Paraphyses capitate or digitate, 30—50ix long, heads 10 —IS/u wide, pedicels 4—10/u; wall usually thin, rarely up to 3ju thick. Telia hypophyllous, subepidermal, small, about mm, when mature dark brown tinged with violet, gregarious, covering the leaf areas in between the veins. Teliospores prismatic, frequently irregular, rounded at both ends, 18 —42 X 7 — 14 jU ; spore wall light brown, uniformly thick, about 1 ju; pore not evident (Figure 139).. FIGURE 139.
