Eye of Hurricane Dean. Clouds swirling around the eye of Hurricane Dean over the Caribbean at noon local time on 18 August 2007. Hurricane Dean formed from a tropical storm moving in from the Atlantic, attaining hurricane status by 16 August. It had reached category 4 strength by 17 August. On 19 August, the hurricane's eye passed just south of Jamaica, with winds of up to 230 kilometres per hour causing severe damage. This image was obtained from the Space Shuttle Endeavour as it carried out a mission to the International Space Station (ISS).
