In a few days the boats came up, bringingprovisions, mail, etc. The wagons were loaded, theboats returned, a pontoon was laid and the army crossedover into South Carolina. While at Sisters Ferry our three Companies, verymuch against our will and protest, were separated. was assigned to duty with the Thirty-eighth Indiana,Co. C; Co. A and the other men were in the FirstDivision Fourteenth A. C. Our Brigade was composedof Twenty-second Indiana. Fifty-second Ohio, Eighty -tifth, Eighty-sixth and One Hundred and Twenty-tiithIllinois, and was commanded by Brevet Brigadier Capt. William Snodgrass was in command ofthe Twenty-second Indiana. He was a rough kind to his men and brave to a fault. This was oneof the oldest Regiments in the service, first commandedby Jeff. C. Davis, who was at this time commanding theFourteenth Corps.
