Monastery at Castrojeriz. Cutaway artwork showing external and internal details and stained glass windows of the San Anton (Saint Anthony) monastery in Castrojeriz, Burgos province, Spain. This monastery was built in 1146 by order of Alfonso VII. It was a monastic hospital, run by the Hospital Brothers of St Anthony (Anthony the Great, also Anthony the Hermit), caring for the sick travelling the pilgrim route Camino de Santiago (Way of St James). It had three naves and two main entrances, one shown here opening onto the pilgrim way. The arches at lower right are all that remain standing, with the rest of the ruins dating from the 14th century.
