Methane Hydrate (also known as methane clathrate, hydromethane and methane ice.) Methane hydrate is a naturally occurring, ice-like form of methane and water often found in sediments tens to hundreds of meters beneath the seafloor at locations where the water depth exceeds about 500 meters. This deposit was found at 1,100m depth in the canyouns 165km south of Nantucket. NOAA Okeanos Ocean Explorer, Northeast Canyons Expedition 2013.
