Known atonce by the great angularslabs of bark hanging partly detached from its maintrunk, forced off by the growth of wood, but too tough tofall. Its leaves are8 to 14 inches long,with 5 to 7 broadleaflets. The woodis very Hght incolor,close-grained,tough and makes an excel-len t bow; is the bestof fuel. A cubicfoot weighs 52 to Maine andsouth to Miss.
