Recruits with Kilo Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, conduct a pugil sticks bout at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, Jan. 30. Before each battle, recruits were paired up by their weight to ensure an even match, so there weren’t any advantages. Annually, more than 17,000 males recruited from the Western Recruiting Region are trained at MCRD San Diego. Kilo Company is scheduled to graduate March 16.
