Amboise, Centre-Val de Loire, France: folded fabrics printed in bright and vibrant colours stacked for sale on a stall in the street market held on Fridays and Sundays in Place Michel Debré, the busy square below the Château d’Amboise, the town’s castle and former residence of the French monarchy. Amboise, in the Indre-et-Loire department, is an historic and picturesque small town on the banks of the River Loire, dominated by its well-preserved ancient château. The fortress was confiscated in 1434 by Charles VII of France and he also died there in 1498. It remained a favourite residence of the French kings until the early 17th century, but was confiscated by the State in 1793 and is now a popular tourist attraction.
