Saturn V first stage erection, 1967. Erection of the assembled first stage (S-IC) for the Saturn V rocket in the vehicle assembly building (VAB) at the Kennedy Space Center, Florida, USA. The Saturn V was the launch vehicle for NASA's Apollo program of manned missions to the Moon. The Apollo program took place between 1961 and 1975. The Saturn V was one of the most powerful rockets ever made. Fully fuelled, the 110-metre high rocket weighed over 3000 tonnes. The rocket's first stage was the stage used during take-off. This is the S-IC for the Apollo 8 mission (AS-503), which launched on 21 December 1968. Photographed in December 1967.
