Prayer For a Hero of Peleliu. A Coast Guardsman kneels beside the grave of a Marine who fell in the furious battle for the beach of Peleliu Island in the Palaus. The Marine was his pal aboard a Coast Guard-manned invasion transport that participated in the assault. The Coast Guardsman, James Fulton, seaman first class, of Leavenworth, Kansas, helped erect a crude cross at the gave back of the fighting lines and hung his dead buddy's belt and helmet on its arms.
