Their abundance in this structure, together with the highly refractiveproperty of the conidia, accounts for the peculiar color of the eruption. Diagnosis.—Although the disease is often overlooked by the patientand mistaken for other affections by the physician, there is really no dif-ficulty in making a correct diagnosis. The affections most liable to be thusconfounded are chloasma, lentigo, seborrhea of the chest, pityriasis rosea, andmacular syphilide. By the laity all discolorations of this kind are attributedto the liver, and medical men have been known to fall into the same error.
