Asphalt / Bitumen Plant

Asphalt ('asphalt concrete') has been widely used since the 1920's. The viscous property of the bitumen binder allows asphalt roadways to deform and not break. Asphalt pavements are built on a crushed rock base which is usually the same thickness as the asphalt. The material used in paving is termed HMA (Hot Mix Asphalt). The advantages of asphalt roadways include low noise, and lower cost compared with other methods, and easy repair. It however has less durability, less tensile strength than cement, can become slippery when wet, and softens in hot weather.
