Brennan, whose servitude as an assistant engineer extended overa period covering from 1846 to 1850. Mr. Brennan early entered into politics, and became identified toa marked degree with the Whig and Republican party, whose fort-unes he assiduously followed with success, until he finally developedinto an influential politician whose power was felt. He, however,never neglected the interest of a companion of former years whohelped in jumping her, boys or who, when his turn at the brake,worked with a will, in accordance with old-time practices among theNew York fire laddies. John J. Morris was born in New York, in which city he is wellknown, having served with credit as an alderman for several one occasion he was selected to fill the responsible positionof president of that body, during which period he also acted asmayor, owing to the absence of the latter. Alderman Morris from 1849 to 1854 was a prominent memberof Niagara Engine No. 4
