Fragment of the tusk of the Woolly Mammoth (Mammuthus primigenius), a species of mammoth that lived in the late Pleistocene epoch, some 30 000 – 50 000 yrs ago. Its habitat was the extensive tundra and steppe environment of the northern hemisphere, from Europe across Asia into north America. This fragment, made of ivory, was fished up from the North Sea waters of the Netherlands, its length is 50 cm.
