Bridge Destroyed By Typhoon Morakot near Shiao Lin Village, Kaohsiung County, Taiwan, August 31, 2009. It is estimated that over 550 people died in the flooding and landslides caused by Typhoon Morakot. Typhoon Morakot struck Taiwan on August 8, 2009, dropping 102 inches of rain, causing severe flooding and landslides primarily in Taiwan’s southern region.
