Night beach view, with reflections, south towards Central Pier 'Big Wheel' and 'Sky Flye at top of ride, Blackpool Illuminations

Night view from the beach north of the Central Pier. The Central Pier dates to 1864, the year after the more genteel North Pier. In 1990 the pier was strengthened, at a cost of £75,000, to take the weight of the 32m (108ft) tall 'Big Wheel', illuminated and reflecting in a sea water beach pool. The Sky Flyer is a recent flying machine ride, where tourists sit in seats which rise and spin, on the promenade near the pier's entrance. Tourists here are spinning around at the top of the Sky Flyer ride.
