Piha is a black sand beach on the west coast of Auckland in the North Island of New Zealand. It is a popular beach with locals, tourists. I has very good surfing and will host a World Surfing League contest in 2020. The sea has strong currents and rips and in summer lifeguards patrol an area flagged for swimmers.
