There are 100 residences along the shores of the five beaches, which stretch from the harbor site to M'Cready Creek, a run of several miles of good bathing and fishing spots. There is an abundance of shade trees right to the water's edge, and happy picnic parties may be seen in many nooks on holidays. Several shops cater for the needs of the public, and a school is to be built next month. At the southern end, facing Slade Rock, there is a rocky headland where the angler may pay attention to bream and other fish which inhabit the deep pools. Along the sandy beaches whiting and flathead offer excellent sport all the year round, and at the creek on the other extremity there are half a dozen motor launches and a fleet of dinghies, from which parties try with success for the big stuff out in the bay. It is a picturesque place, and when a stiff breeze breaks the foam over Eimeo headland, not far to the north, it is really beautiful. Quite a number of Mackay people have made permanent homes alonf the beach, and some fine types of seaside cottage may be seen. A virile progress association, with Mr. Arthur Calvert as president, aided by a keen women's committee, has been responsible for some good work during the year. It is hoped to have a good metal road all the way down from Mackay shortly. For some reason not yet clear, Slade Point is particularly healthful. People have been carried down there to die in peace and many be seen at the present day cutting logs, and walking briskly to town. Families have moved to that beach for no other reason than that some member can be assured there of the priceless boon, perfect health, which is
