The circular Monks Tower within the grounds of the 13th century constructed medieval Akershus Fortress, also known as Oslo castle in Oslo, Norway. The castle is located on a small hill overlooking the main cruise ship port serving other seaports in the Baltic region. Its first Royal resident was Norwegian born King Haakon V Magnusson of Norway from 1299 until 1319. Through the ages, the castle had withstood a number of sieges. Later, King Christian IV (1588-1648) had the castle modernised and converted into a Renaissance castle and royal residence. Apart from being used as a Ryal residence, the castle has also been used as a military base, a prison and is currently the temporary office of the prime minister of Norway.[3]
