The station was renamed Städtische Oper on 1 August 1929, Deutsches Opernhaus on 16 August 1934 and finally Deutsche Oper on 22 September 1961. The station was severely damaged by fire that broke out during the Love Parade in 2000 and passengers had to flee into the tunnel as there was only one station exit at the Western end of the platform. The station was re-opened with an additional eastern exit on 1 September 2000 in a renovated 1906 colourful wall tiles were designed by José de Guimarães, a present from the Portuguese ambassador in Berlin.
