Hakluyt's 'Principal Navigations'. Title page of 'The Principal Navigations, Voiages and Discoveries of the English Nation' (1589) by English author Richard Hakluyt (1553-1616). This work contained numerous travel tales and explorer's stories collected by Hakluyt. The extended title shown here describes them as 'Made by Sea or Over Land to the Most Remote and Farthest Distant Quarters of the Earth at Any Time within the Compasse of These 1500 Years'. The three parts are described, listing the many places explored. Hakluyt's credentials are at bottom, with details of the London printers George Bishop and Ralph Newbery, deputies to the Queen's Printer Christopher Barker.
