Stone coal and fire-clay are among the most valuable minerals of the county. Itwas formed a few years ago, out of the Northern part of Brookecounty. Capital, New Cumberland. Population, 4050, of whom4047 were free, and three slaves. Hanover, a county in the E. part of Virginia, contains about400 square miles. It is drained by the North Anna and SouthAnna rivers, which unite on the N. E. border of the county,and form the Pamunkey. The surface is hilly, and presentsmuch diversity of soil.
