Denys Corbett Wilson (1882-1915) made 1st successful flight from UK to Ireland in 1912, taking 100 minutes to complete the journey. He initially left Hendon aerodrome near London on 17th April racing against a fellow pilot Damer Allen. Tragically Allen was lost at sea attempting the crossing. Corbet Wilson meanwhile had engine trouble and was forced down in mid Wales before heading for Pembrokeshire, from where he made his historic flight. He left Goodwick at am on the 22nd April 1012 in fine weather, but as he neared the Irish coast, he ran into heavy rain and fog. He eventually spotted a field below him and landed in what turned out to be a smaller field than he thought and ended up with a broken propeller up against a bank. But he had achieved the first successful flight to Ireland . later he went to join the Royal Flying corps acting as a pilot observer in the first world war. Tragically he was killed in action in 1915 and he is buried in Cabaret-Rouge British Cimetery, Souchez France.
