The committee appointed by the Society to have the exhibition incharge consisted of Cornelius B. Crandall, Miss Gertrude Palmer, P. Trumbull, Miss Anne Atwood and Dr. James H. Palmer, who had been a devoted member of the Society for yearsand had taken special interest in the plans for the exhibition, was strickenwith a fatal illness a few weeks before the opening day and died on Junethirtieth. The committee did not fill the vacancy caused by her death. Much of the success of the exhibition was due to the fact that EdwardH. Sheffield was secured as the custodian.
