A papal presentation sword of Clement VIII, Italy, ca. 1600 Slender blade of flattened hexagonal section, the distinctly offset ricasso with two short guards. At the base of the blade the etched inscription "CLEMENTE VIII", beneath two imperial orbs and "IHS". The opposite side is inscribed "MISTINAL ES IHS" next to a finely etched crucifix. Widely extended, blackened quillons with a ring guard on each side as well as finger bars. The grip retaining its original leathering (small defects), the upper end provided with a Turk's head of copper wire. Blackened pomm,
