The Moreton Bay Courier 4 February 1860 NIGHT PROWLERS. 3723424 ) The denizens of George-street, or rather the upper end of it, have been very much annoyed and disturbed of late by certain prowling vagabonds, who come about their houses of nights, and wear such an aspect as does not by any means warrant their pleading innocence. A correspondent, who signs himself Six Shooter, late with Samuel Colt, New York City, thus communicates with us on the subject:- Sir,- We pay rent and taxes down at our end of George-street - more by token the last don't leave us much money to spend in silver spoons, yet for all that we don't like having our henroosts robbed and our back windows tried at 2 in the morning, by the six-foot ruffians that swarm in the neighboring rookeries, because it makes one feel so narvous, and although it is doubtless easier to track one of them by his blood, or even to prevail on him to stop, than to swear next day to all you can see of his ugly face on a dark night, yet one don't like amateur butchery when such an excellent perwentive exists in the irresistible blues, who seem to have some Crown jewels or horse-armoury to guard in the archway under the White Tower, so pertinaciously do they stick there, and so seldom are they seen down in our parts. A rogue disguised as an honest man is as easily detected ase six-footer in woman's clothes, and his designs are as transparent as glazier's glass. A nod should be as good as a wink.
