PackBot military robot ascending stairs. This is an early version of the PackBot robot (the first version was known as Urbie), developed to perform bomb disposal and dangerous missions such as disposal of explosives, aiding in nuclear disasters, and carrying out search and reconnaissance. This robot was developed by the US company iRobot from a 1998 DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) project. The 2000th PackBot was produced in 2008.
