A sign for viewing the border of the neighboring countries of India and Pakistan at Turtuk village of Leh district in Ladakh. Turtuk, in the Baltistan region, was once under Pakistani control until the Indo-Pakistan war of 1971. The Thang village was seized from Pakistan as a result of the Indo-Pakistan war in 1971. Pharnu and Thang are twin villages where family members are seen living on either side of the two neighboring country's villages.
