BRUGES, Belgium — Historic bells from the Belfry's carillon are displayed in an educational exhibition documenting the tower's musical heritage. The display features examples of bell-casting craftsmanship spanning several centuries, including historic Dumery bells from the 1740s. These artifacts help tell the story of Bruges' carillon tradition and bell-making technology.

The bell exhibition in the Bruges Belfry provides visitors with a close-up view of historic carillon bells, illustrating the evolution of bell casting technology from the 18th century to modern times. The display includes examples from the 26 bells cast by Georgius Dumery between 1742 and 1748, demonstrating the sophisticated metallurgical and acoustic engineering of the period. These historic artifacts complement the tower's current 47-bell carillon, which combines Dumery's original bells with modern additions by Koninklike Eijsbouts from 2010. The exhibition allows visitors to examine the intricate craftsmanship and technical details of these massive musical instruments, which would otherwise be inaccessible in their operational positions high in the tower. This display helps document the continuing tradition of carillon music in Bruges and the technological achievements in bell casting over nearly three centuries.
