After marriage he took to farming inSnyder and Mifflin counties. After the death ofMr. Herbster he bought the homestead farm ofths heirs April 1st, 1848. Mr. Miller raised afamily of three girls: Lizzie S., married to Palm-er Dreese, now living in Cambria county; , married to Charles Long, of McClure,and Mary EZ., living at home. As the children. grew up and left home Mr. Miller concluded tostop farming in the spring of 1004, and purchaseda property in Beaver Springs, where he now re-sides. He is a member of the Reformed churchand has served as Sunday school superintendentfor years. Wheat and rye was threshed withthe flail or tramped out by horses inthe barn. I rode the horses in thebarn until 1 was nearly frozen. Itfrequently took all winter to threshout a crop and sometimes the cropwas not threshed out entirely untilthe next crop was ripe. One manthreshed rye for a levy a day andboard. By this means he saved hisboarding at home and earned 75 centsper week besides.—Thomas Shipton. CITIZENS OF BEAVER SPRINGS JESSE B. EWING.
