Located strategically close to the Old Harbour, Limassol Castle in Cyprus has many layers of history. So, clearly does this ancient, gnarled tree trunk in its main courtyard. Whilst not an expert on trees, it looks like Olea europaea - an Olive Tree - to me. If so, it could be REALLY old; the average age of these amazing plants is 500 years, and many are over 1000.
